We assume you’re checking out this section because you're getting married . . . . how exciting! And if you're interested in getting married at United Reformed Church, that's exciting for us, too. We enjoy sharing the exhilaration of this turning point in your life. You want your day to be as filled with joy as possible. You want to be sure that people will come away from your wedding service, smiling, and ready for a great celebration afterward. Here's how we can help to make that happen.
First, you'll probably talk with the Pastor about your interest in having a wedding here. He's happy to talk with you about it, but he's not a lone ranger. He works with a Consistory, who will ultimately need to approve your service (if the ceremony is held onsite). The Consistory asks that you attend worship on at least two occasions prior to your wedding being approved, and occasionally, as you are able, between the approval and the day of your wedding. Why? In the first place, it's for your sake - you want to be well assured that the way our Pastor conducts services will compliment your expectations of your wedding service. But also, because we are a church and not a catering business, there is a religious and community dimension to making your vows here. We want to get to know you, so that we can share your joy. We do NOT require membership prior to approval, only familiarity.
Then, once the Consistory has approved your wedding date (Consistory meets every month, so this can be done fairly quickly), you'll need to have at least a couple of conversations with the pastor. We don't require a long series of pre-marital counseling sessions, but the pastor will provide you with some helpful questions to consider prior to getting married, and you'll have a time to talk about those during one of those sessions.
